optics #2 oh yes Flashcards

1
Q

how is light produced

A

electrons change orbital levels and energy is emitted? i dont remember learning this one were gonna have to wing this one but its just multiple chice.
uhhhh its produced by the sun

Q

what is specular reflection

A

when light is reflected off of a smooth surface and makes a perfect image like peaceful ponds in cool pics

Q

how do you draw an image in a plane mirror

A

measure the length from the object to the mirror and draw the points for the image.
draw a straight line from the eye to the points of the virtual image
draw rays from te object and conect them at the mirror with the eye rays
add arrows to how which way the light is going (arrows into eyes)

Q

how do you draw an image in a concave mirror that is not at F or inside of F

A

draw a light ray from the top of the object parallel to the principal axis and reflect it through the focus
draw a light ray from the top of the object through the focus. reflects off the mirror parallel to the axis
where lines meet is where the top of the object is.
make sure to draw arrows to show where it is going

9
Q

how to draw an image what is located inside F

A

draw a line from C to the top of the object and beyond past the mirror
draw a line from the top of the object prallel to the axis and reflect it into the focus, extend the line where it hits the mirror and hit the other line. this is where your virtual image is.
dont forget to draw arrows!

Q

how do you find images in convex mirrors

A

draw a ray parallel to the axis and reflected as it it had come through the focus.
draw a line from the top of the object towards the focus and reflect it parallel to the axis when it hits the mirror. continue the reflected line until it hits the first line you drew. remember arrows.

14
Q

how do you draw an image from a converging lens

A

draw a line pallel to the axis into the lens and trough F
draw a line from the top of the object through the lens at the point where the axis and lens meet, continue through until you have another intersection.

16
Q

how do you draw an image in a diverging lens

A

draw from the top of the arrow to the lens and reflect with a dotted line through F
draw another line from the top of the object through the center point.

17
Q

what are the uses of concave mirrors

A

flashlights, car headlights, and old satelite dishes.

18
Q

uses of convex mirrirs

A

security mirror, side view mirror, apparently not to avoid shopping cart collision.

19
Q

what is hyperopia?

A

far sightedness

20
Q

how do you correct hyperopia

A

converging lenses

21
Q

what is myopia

A

near sightedness

22
Q

how do you correct myophia?

A

diverging lens

23
Q

suprise!

A

now go to the “opTHICCS” deck and study that one again.
