Oral Board MDSO Flashcards
(33 cards)
Acetaminophen MDSOs
Adult - Analgesia
Adult - Fever
Pediatric - Fever
Acetaminophen - Classification
Antipyretic, Analgesic
Acetaminophen Details
Onset - 30-60 minutes
Peak - n/a
T1/2 - n/a
Duration - 4-6 hours
Acetaminophen MOA
Effects are believed to be related to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthetase, with antipyretic effects produced through the action on the hypothalamic heat-regulating centre.
Acetylcystine MDSO
Tylenol OD/Tox
Acetylcystine - Classification
Mucolytic
Acetylcystine - Details
Onset - immediate
Peak - n/a
T1/2 - n/a
Duration - n/a
Acetylcystine MOA
Moderates nerve and muscle performance via action potential excitation threshold regulation.
Acetylcystine Complications & Adverse Effects
Anaphylactoid reactions. Likely due to dose-related stimulation of histamine release rather than a true allergic response. If this occurs, restart infusion at a slower rate.
Acetaminophen Complications & Adverse Effects
Skin: Rash, urticaria
Hepatic: Mild increase in hepatic enzymes mat occur and is reversible when the drug is withdrawn
GI: N/V, bloating.
ASA MDSO
NSTEMI
ACS
ASA Classification
NSAID, Analgesia, Antipyretic, Anticoagulant
ASA Details
Onset - 5 minutes
Peak - 1-2 hours
T1/2 - 3-10 hours (dose dependent)
Duration - 6 hours
ASA MOA
Inhibits COX 1 & 2 enzymes which results in decreased formation of prostaglandin precursors. Inhibits formation of prostaglandin derivative thromboxane A2, via acetylation of platelet cyclooxyrgenase, thus inhibiting platelet aggregation.
ASA Complications and Adverse Effects
Hemorrhage
HI ulcer, epigastric distress, gastritis, GI erosion, heartburn, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting.
Increased blood urea nitrogen, increased serum creatinine, interstitial nephritis, renal failure
Skin rash, urticaria
ASA Contraindications
Previous stroke in the last 24 hours.
Adenosine MDSO
PSVT
Adenosine Classification
Antiarrhythmic (Class V)
Adenosine Details
Onset - Less than 60 seconds
Peak - 60 seconds
T1/2 - 10 seconds
Duration - 1-2 minutes
Adenosine MOA
Slows conduction through AV node, interrupts AVNRT and can restore NSR in PSVT via modulation of the K+ currents and the blunging of catecholamine response.
Adenosine Complications & Adverse Effects
Non-cardiac: Facial flushing, chest pain, dyspnea, headache, light-headedness.
Cardiac: 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree heart block, systole, and varied arrhythmias.
Adenosine Contraindications
2nd/3rd degree block
Sick sinus syndrome
Symptomatic bradycardia
Known or suspected bronchoconstrictive or bronchospastic lung disease, asthma.
Amiodarone MDSO
Adult - Nom-traumatic cardiac arrest
Adult - VTach with perfusion
Adult - Cardiogenic Shock
Pediatric - Non-traumatic cardiac arrest
Amiodarone Classification
Antiarrhythmic (Class III)
