Loyalty to the Truth
A friend, in your church, believes that God is telling her to go on an extended missions trip to country where Christians experience severe and often violent persecution. She is married, with three young children between the ages of 3 and 9. She asks your opinion. How would you respond?
Tit. 2:5 - to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
1 Tim. 5:8 - But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
1 John 4:1 - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
According to Hebrews 13:17, to whom and for what are elders “accountable”? Why is that important to other believers within the church?
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. (Hebrews 13:17, ESV)
Elders are accountable to God, and must give an account to Him. Thus, believers should obey and submit to them.
According to Scripture, what are the defining characteristics of a “false teacher”? Would you distinguish between a “false teacher” and a teacher who has erred on a particular issue? If so, how? If possible, cite two examples.
2 Pet. ch 2. 1) Introduce destructive heresies 2) Sensual, sexually immoral 3) Greedy 4) Living ungodly lives 5) Despise authority 6) Daring and self-willed 7) No fear of God and His servants 8) Ignorant and unreasoning 9) Deceptive 10) Arrogant Balaam (Num. ch. 22) Judaizers (Gal. ch. 5)

Are there degrees of sin?
Yes,
John 19:11 - Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” Speaking to Pilate
Luke 12:47-48: 47 And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. 48 But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.
