Ordnance Flashcards
Block VI EA-18G ARMAMENT (35 cards)
State the objective of the Explosive Handling Qualification and Certification Program
To ensure that all personnel, after having received training and demonstrated the ability to properly and safely perform all function and task involving explosive devices, are certified to handle such devices.
State the purpose of suspension/accessory equipment
To suspend and release stores, bombs and a variety of missiles
State the purpose of an impulse cartridge. Cartridge Activated Devices (CADS)
Uses to eject single stores and a variety of weapons from the aircraft.
What is AIM?
Air-launched
Intercept-Aerial
Guided Missile
What is AGM?
Air- launched
Surface-Attack
Guided Missile
What is CATM?
Captive Air Training Missile
What is HERO?
Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance
What is a RETARDED bomb?
Used during low-level bombing, fins open to slow down the weapon and allows aircraft sufficient time to clear target area.
What is a NON-RETARED bomb?
Used during high-level bombing, Fins remains closed allowing weapon to fall unimpeded to target.
What does YELLOW weapons coding mean?
High Explosive
What does BROWN coding mean?
Rocket Motor
What does BLUE coding mean?
Training or Inert
What is ACTIVE weapons guidance system?
Target illumination is supplied by a component carried in the missile.
What is SEMI-ACTIVE weapons guidance system?
Missile gets its target illumination from an external source, such as a transmitter carried in launching aircraft.
What is PASSIVE weapons guidance system?
Directing intelligence is received from the target.
What is the purpose of Decoy flares?
used during evasive maneuvers against heat-seeking missiles.
What is the purpose of CHAFF?
fine-shredded metal strips that disperse into the atmosphere and jams ground controlled radar installation or radar-controlled missiles.
Describe the hazards associated with forward firing ordnance
Auto-ignition
toxic chemicals
inadvertent separation from aircraft
high heat
protruding surfaces
motor detonation
Describe the type of Bomb Rack that is used on the EA-18G
Bru-32 bomb ejector rack used to suspend and ejector single stores and weapons with 14 or 30 in suspension.
Describe the location and purpose of the ICM Switch
The ICM switch is located on the left forward fuselage. In the extended (safe) position all countermeasure dispensing is inhibited. In the flush (arm) position dispensing is enabled.
Armament Control Processor Set
Also known as the stores management system (SMS) provides electrical interface between the weapon stations, aircraft switching, and related aircraft systems, consists of an armament control processor (ACP) also known as the stores management processor (SMP), and up to nine signal data converter- controls (SDCC).
Command Launch Computer (CLC)
Is used to control and monitor the high speed anti-radiation (HARM) missile, located in door 13R.
AN/ALE-47
Provides aircraft protection in sophisticated threat environments. The ALE-47 improves aircraft survivability against tracking radar, air-to-air and surface to air missiles. Protection is provided by ejection chaff, flares, and RF expendables, and other payloads.
AN/ALE-50
A towed active RF decoy system which provides an effective Off-board countermeasures capability
