Q

Cardiovascular System

A
  • Transport system that carries oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, wastes, ions, hormones, etc. to and from the tissue cells.
  • Blood is moved through the blood vessels by the pumping action of the heart.

Q

Lymphatic System

A
  • Picks up fluid leaked from blood vessels and returns it to the blood.
  • Cleanses blood of pathogens and other debris
  • Houses lymphocytes (WBC’s) that act via the immune response to protect the body from foreign substances.
Ex: Lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, spleen, and thymus

Q

Respiratory System

A
  • Keeps blood supplied with oxygen while removing carbon dioxide.
  • Gaseous exchanges through walls of the air sacs of the lungs.
  • Contributes to the acid-base balance of the blood
Ex: Nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs

Q

Digestive system

A
  • Breaks down food into absorbable units for nutrients to enter the blood.
  • Waste is eliminated as feces.
