Organelles Flashcards
(16 cards)
What’s the function of the cytoplasm?
- jelly like liquid fluid
- organelles found within it
Both animal and plant cell
What’s the function of the cell membrane?
- Double layered
- supports cell
- controls what goes in and outta cell
- Both
What’s the function of the nucleus?
- Contains genetic material (DNA)
- Control centre of cell
- Both
What’s the function of the mitochondria?
Generates most of the chemical energy needed to power the cells bio chemical reactions
- Both
What’s the function of the cell wall ?
- Outside of cell membrane
- rigid; made of cellulare
- Support cell and provides protection from injury
-Plant
What’s the function of the chloroplast?
- Contains chlorophyll
- Absorbs, light energy and it’s the site of photosynthesis
- Plant
What’s the function of the vacuole?
- Storage sacs, store nutrients & waste
- Animal cells: many small vacuoles
- Plant cells: one large vacuole
- Both
What’s the function of the nucleolus?
- In nucleus
- Produce ribosomes
- Both
What’s the function of the chromosomes?
- DNA of cells is contained in these
- Gets passed on to offsprings
- Both
What’s the function of the ribosomes?
- Site of protein production
- Both
What’s the function of the lysosomes?
- Contains enzymes that digest unwanted substances
- Animal
What’s the function of the centrioles?
- Help w spindle fiber formation which is required for cell division
- Animal
What’s the function of the cilia and flagella?
- Animal
How is the vacuole found in an animal cell different from a vacuole found in a plant cell?
Animal- many small vacuoles that help isolate waste products
Plant- one large vacuole that help maintain water balance and maintain the shape of the cell
What organelles do plant cells have that animals don’t?
Cell wall and chloroplast
What organelles do animal cells have that plant cells don’t?
Centrosome, lysosome, cilia/flagella
