Hydrocarbons
an Organic compound consisting of hydrogen and carbon
Alkanes
Hydrocarbons with single bonds between the carbons.
contain as many Hydrogen as possible so are saturated.
Alkanes General Formula
CnH2n+2
Mythane
1
Ethane
2
Propane
3
Butane
4
Pentane
5
Heptane
6
Hexane
7
Alkenes
a double bond between at least 2 carbon atoms
Alkene General Formula
CnH2n
Alkynes
a triple bond between at least 2 carbon atoms
Isomers
Same molecular formula different arragement
Geometric Isomers
Occurs because of a double bond, so can’t rotate.
each carbon must 2 different groups attached, one of those groups must be the same for both
Cis Iosmers
Same group on the same side f the double bond
Trans Isomers
Same group on opposite sides of the double bond
