Anthropology meaning of culture
-socially inherited, shared, and learned ways of living possessed by individuals by virtue of their membership in social groups
Organizational Culture
-Pattern of beliefs and expectations shared by the organizational members, which produce norms that can powerfully shape their behavior of individuals and groups in the organization
-a system of shared meaning held by members that distinguishes the organizations from other organizations

Iceberg Model of Culture
-Language, Rituals, stories and symbols above the water
-Beliefs, values, and attitudes below the water
-Assumptions, lowest level below the water
Work Values Based on Culture
-Work related values are not universal
-National cultural values are likely to persist (even when a multinational tries to impose the same norms all over the world)
-Local values determine how headquarters regulations are followed
Power Distance
-The extent to which people feel comfortable with large separations of power between themselves and their elders and or superiors
Individualism-Collectivism
-The extend to which people focus on individual needs and achievements versus that of the in-group or family
Uncertainty Avoidance
-The extent to which people are comfortable with ambiguity in rules and procedures
Masculinity-Femininity
-Extent to which equality between sexes is values and roles and responsibilities based on gender are differentiated
Long vs Short Term
-Value placed on long term or short-term achievement
Monochronic vs. Polychronic
-Perception of time
Low context vs high context
-Complexity of communication, meanings and messages
