Who was Kaiser Wilhelm

A

1.He became the Kaiser at just 27 after the death of his Father.
He was grandson of Queen Victoria. He suffered an injury at birth which made his left arm useless.
2.He had a love/hate relationship with Britain:
He said the British were: “Mad as March hares” in the Daily Telegraph
3.The “Place in the Sun” speech he did was used by many newspapers. It was used as propaganda from both sides: The French and the German which only used parts of the speech which were in favour of their point.
4. He sent the panther (a gun
boat) to threaten france morocco after the french said it should become a french colony and restore order after terrorists kidnaped 2 people. He ends up being humiliated in the Algeciras Conference

Who was Tsar Nicholas II?

A

1.He was the Tsar of Russia. His cousin was Kaiser Wilhelm. His grandmother was queen Victoria
2.He was left humiliated in the bosnian war when Russia failed to support Serbia because of problems within the country. That left tsar nicholas II eager for revenge.
3.He was the last emperor of Russia. He was a bad emperor and the population hated him. In 1917 they started a revolution against him, ending his reign.
4.The letters between him and his cousin were called the Willy-Nicky telegrams

A

1.He was the Archduke of Austria-Hungary
2.Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were assassinated by the Black Hand.
His murder took place on the Schiller’s Delicatessen
3.The weapons were provided by the Serbian army officer “Apis” or “the bee”
4.Franz Ferdinand was a reformer, who was disliked by serbian people, because his rise to power would endanger a lot of the policies that were already in place. He went to Sarajevo, determined to create a friendly impression.

  2. The first dreadnought was built in 1906 by Admiral Sir John “Jacky” Fisher
  3. The revolutionary features: an “all-big 360°guns “ armament scheme, with an unprecedented number of heavy-calibre guns, and steam turbine propulsion

What was the Daily Telegraph Interview?

A

1.The German Kaiser Wilhelm II was interviewed by the British newspaper the Daily Telegraph, a lot of what was said was taken out of context to make the Kaiser seem worse than he was.
2.The Kaiser was quoted saying that the British were “Mad as march hares.” and “my own people are not friendly to England” And this would make the front page of the news. This worsened relations instead of making them better.
3.The interview was made so the Germans could build/ regain relations with the English. He pointed out that he was a friend of England and that he strives without ceasing to improve relations.
4.The interview between the Daily Telegraph had passed through the German government and was published on the 28th of October 1908.

What was the July Crisis?

A

1.It was a crisis caused by the assassination of the Archduke of Austria-Hungary.
2.The July crisis began on the 28th of June and ended on the 4th of August and resulted in WWI.
3.After the assasination Austria gave Serbia an ultimatum, (a list of demands) for Serbia to complete. Serbia agreed to most of the demands, except for one which allowed Austria to check that they had put the demands in place. Because of this Austria started to bomb the capital of Serbia Belgrade.
4.After Austria attacked Serbia the mobilisation of Russia began which then led to Germany declaring war on Russia because they felt threatened. France then chose to mobilise, which Germany again took as a threat a declare war on France. Germany started to send troops through Belgium, the next day Britain declared war on Germany and swore to defend Belgium neutrality.
