Orthopedic Tests Flashcards
(36 cards)
What is the O’Donoghue Maneuver?
- Active range of motion of the affected body part
- Active resisted motion while the examiner holds the body part
- Examiner moves the body part through passive range of motion
What are the positive findings when performing the O’Donoghue Maneuver?
- Exacerbation of symptoms during active/active resisted motion is indicative of a strained or torn muscle or tendon (contractile issue)
- Exacerbation of symptoms during passive motion is indicative of ligamentous sprain
What is the positive finding when performing the Neutral Cervical Compression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicating nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is the positive finding when performing the Lateral Flexion Cervical Compression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicating nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is the positive finding when performing the Jackson Rotary Cervical Compression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicating nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is the positive finding when performing the Hyperextension Cervical Compression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicating nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is the positive finding when performing the Maximal Foraminal Compression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicating nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is another name for the Maximal Foraminal Compression Test?
Spurling Test
What are the positive findings when performing the Cervical Distraction Test?
- Decrease in symptoms, suggesting nerve root encroachment within the IVF
- Increase in radiating symptoms, indicating nerve root adhesions
- Increase in well-localized cervical pain suggesting capsular inflammation
What is the positive finding when performing the Bakody Maneuver?
Decrease in symptoms, suggesting nerve root irritation due to IVF encroachment
What is the positive finding when performing the Shoulder Depression Test?
Reproduction of radiating pain down the upper extremity, indicative of nerve root irritation due to adhesions/scar tissue
What are the positive findings when performing the Adson Test?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating anterior scalene TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating anterior scalene TOS
What is another name for the Adson Test?
Scalene Anticus Test
What are the positive findings when performing the Reverse Adson Test?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating middle scalene TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating middle scalene TOS
What are the positive findings when performing the Eden Test?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating costoclavicular TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating costoclavicular TOS
What are the positive findings when performing the Soldier Position?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating costoclavicular TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating costoclavicular TOS
What is another name for the Soldier’s Position?
Military Brace Position
What are the positive findings when performing the Roos Test?
- Upper extremity pain or paraesthesias, indicating vascular insufficiency due to hyperabduction TOS (pectoralis minor)
- Blanching or fatiguing before the test is complete, indicating vascular insufficiency due to hyperabduction TOS (pectoralis minor)
What is another name for the Roos Test?
Elevated Arm Stress Test
What are the positive findings when performing the Hostage Position?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating hyperabduction (pectoralis minor) TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating hyperabduction (pectoralis minor) TOS
What are the positive findings when performing the Wright Test?
- Reproduction of symptoms in the upper extremity, indicating hyperabduction (pectoralis minor) TOS
- Decrease in pulse volume/patency, indicating hyperabduction (pectoralis minor) TOS
What is the positive finding when performing the Apley Scratch Test?
Pain or inability to perform equally on each side, indicative of non-specific shoulder dysfunction
What is the positive finding when performing the Yergason Test?
Pain or crepitus (audible or palpable popping/clicking) of the bicipital tendon, indicating partial or complete tear of the transverse humeral ligament
What is the positive finding when performing the Speed Test?
Pain or crepitus (audible or palpable popping/clicking) of the bicipital tendon, indicating partial or complete tear of the transverse humeral ligament
