Role of AvWO (4 things)
- Employed as part of cockpit crew to operate Seahawk Romeo (as copilot)
- Act as mission commander responsible for tactical employement of weapon and sensor systems
- Trained as warfare officer capable of undertaking a variety of airborne anti surface and anti-submarine warfare sorties
- Providing tactical information directly to shop and other maritime forces
AvWO Additional duties (3 things)
Leadership, management, administration and career advice to junior sailors and officers within division.
Division is up 50 junior sailors and officers.
All junior officers requred to keep officer of the day (OOD) duties, representative of the commanding officer for 24 hours.
General maintenance and upkeeps of navy vessels and equipment as part of the larger team.
Salary details
For DEO
First year of training $42, 631 /year
Second year (where applicable $47,960
while training receive $10,493 training allowance
uniform allowance $419 / year
midshipmen paid $682 per year once they must become perm member of wardroom
service allowance $13,991 (except while IET)
salary on completion of IET pay grade 3 Sub Lieutenant $66,655/yr)
relevant locations
1fts at RAAF Sale
operational flying training at HMAS Albatross Nowra
mainly based at Fleet air arm in HMAS Albatross but posted to any navy shop with embarked helicopters
Could also be employed in a variety of locations as Commander, divisional officer, or providing specialist advice to the command

Royal Australian Navy Swim Test (RANST
- 3m tower safety jump
- 10m underwater swim in overalls
- 50 swim using three safety strokes
- tread water for 15 minutes in overalls

- 1 week aviation medicine training at raaf edinbugh, near adelaide
- RAN MAvWO course - air nav training, 38 weeks RAAF East Sale, king air (provisional wings at end)
- MAvWO rotary wing course, Albatross, 16 weeks EC135
- Comsurv 3 weeks Townsville
- Operational conversion 1 year (Ob Wings awarded after course)
