(23 cards)
How many steps are in osteopathic screening exam?
12
Purpose of the exam?
Assess patient for evidence of somatic dysfunction.
Finding may yield more specific tests
Step 1?
State purpose of test
Step 2?
Evaluate Gait
Step 3?
Postural assessment
Planes of posture?
Transverse, A/P (coronal) and lateral (saggital) views.
Step 4?
Palpate tenderness over iliolumbar ligament.
First tender point associated with a postural decompensation pattern.?
iliolumbar ligament!!
Step 5?
Have patient participate in Active/Passive ranges of motion
Step 6?
Student has patient bend forward. Looks for asymmetry
Step 7?
Student performs standing and seated flexion tests
Step 8?
Active gross spinal motion testing for
- flexion-
- extension-
- rotation-
- Sidebending-
Step 9?
Acromion Drop Test
Acromion drop test divides area and neck into 3rds and inferior force induced:
Lat 1/3
Checks side bending and restriction of lower thoracics
Acromion drop test divides area and neck into 3rds and inferior force induced:
Mid 1/3
Checks side bending and mid thoracics
Acromion drop test divides area and neck into 3rds and inferior force induced:
Medial 1/3
Checks side bending and restriction of upper thoracics.
Step 10?
Hip drop test
-Screens for lumbar side bending restrictions
Step 11?
Pelvic side-shift test
What does the Pelvic side-shift test do?
Assesses fascial connection btw lumbo-pelvic-hip complex.
Pelvic side-shift test position?
Usually standing
Step 12?
Evaluate superior/elevated 1st rib angle tenderness and respiratory motion
Step 13?
Straight leg test performed.
What does straight leg test screen for?
- Lumbar radiculopathies
- Hip Flexion Restriction
- IT band tension
- Tightness of hamstrings.
