Who is othello?
Othello is a noble and brave moorish general in the venetian army, deeply in love with Desdemona. He is manipulated to jealousy, leading to tragedy.
Who is Desdemona?
A kind and faithful Venetian lady who marries othello out of love.
She becomes the tragic victim of othello’s misplaced jealousy.
Who is Iago?
Othello’s deceitful and envious ensign (subordinate officer).
He plots against othello by making him believe that Desdemona is unfaithful.
Who is Cassio?
Othello’s loyal and honourable lieutenant.
Iago tricks othello into thinking Cassio is having an affair with Desdemona.
Who is Emilia?
Iago’s wife and Desdemona’s maid.
She unknowingly helps Iago’s scheme but later exposes his treachery.
Who is Roderigo?
A foolish suitor of Desdemona who is used by Iago in his plans.

A noble leader who supports Othello and approves his marriage to Desdemona.
