What drug classes can be used as anti-anxiolytics?
SSRIs, SNRIs, benzodiazepines, beta-blockers, antihistamines
What are some examples of benzodiazepines and what is their mechanism of action?
- Diazepam, lorazepam

What are the limitations of benzodiazepines and how are they negated?
- Side effects - sedating, anterograde memory loss, highly addictive
- Very unpleasant to detox from
- As a result, should only be prescribed for 1-2 weeks at lowest possible dose to prevent addiction
What is used to treat the antipsychotic side effects of dystonia and pseudoparkinsonism?
Anticholinergics - procyclidine, benztropine
What are the side effects of anticholinergics?
Dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, postural dizziness
What treatment is used for alcohol withdrawal?
Benzodiazepines, vitamin B Co-strong and thiamine (Pabrinex)
What treatment is used for alcohol cessation support?
Acamprosate (reduces cravings), disulfiram (Antabuse), naltrexone (prevents relapse)
Name some Z-drugs?
Zopiclone, zolpidem
Name some acetylcholinesterase inhibitors?
Donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine
Name an NMDA antagonist?
