What are the classifications of Physicians orders?

Activity - type of activity pt is allowed

Diagnostic - any lab work, diagnostic procedures (x-rays, U/S, ECGs etc) requested

Dietary - refer to nourishment given to pt

Medication - orders to help alleviate pain, treat disease and to prepare a pt for diagnostic/surgical procedures

Treatment - include nursing treatments. Ex, IV therapy, dressing changes & respiratory therapy

Misc. - orders that do not fall into other classifications ie. isolation or transfer of a pt
