What is the definition of Occupation?
Everyday life activities that are meaningful and purposeful to the individual. Includes ADLs, IADLs, rest/sleep, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation.
ADLs: Activities of Daily Living; IADLs: Instrumental Activities of Daily Living.
How is Activity defined?
A general class of human actions that are goal directed. Not specific to one client, unlike occupations.
Activities can be seen as broader categories that encompass various occupations.
What does Occupational Performance refer to?
The ability to carry out activities in the areas of occupation. Influenced by client factors, performance skills, performance patterns, and context.
What are Client Factors?
Specific capacities, characteristics, or beliefs that reside within the person and influence performance in occupations. Includes values, beliefs, body functions, and body structures.
What are Performance Skills?
Observable, goal-directed actions used to engage in daily life. Includes motor, process, and social interaction skills.
What are Performance Patterns?
Habits, routines, roles, and rituals used in the process of engaging in occupations.
What does Context encompass?
Broad construct that includes personal and environmental factors influencing occupational engagement.
What are Environmental Factors?
Physical, social, and attitudinal environment in which people live and conduct their lives.
Define Personal Factors.
Background traits of a person not part of a health condition (e.g., age, gender identity, education, lifestyle).
What is Occupational Justice?
A concept that promotes the right of all individuals to have access to meaningful occupations regardless of differences.
What is an Intervention Plan?
The part of the OT process where goals are set and approaches to support engagement in occupation are selected.
What does Evaluation entail?
The process of gathering and interpreting data to understand the client’s needs and occupational performance problems.
What is Therapeutic Use of Self?
A practitioner’s use of their personality, insights, perceptions, and judgments as part of the therapeutic process.
Define Co-occupation.
Occupations that involve two or more individuals. Involve shared physicality, emotionality, and intentionality.
What is Health Management?
An occupation added in OTPF-4 that includes personal care routines related to physical and mental health maintenance.
