What is the significance of 26 January?

A

The date of commencement of the constitution, 26 January 1950 is selected due to its historical importance. At the Congress Lahore session in December 1929, 26th January 1930 was fixed as the independence Day. On achieving independence, 15th August 1947 became INDEPENDENCE day and 26 January the Republic Day.
