Bilingual Community
defined in terms of parents, guardians, and extended families of minority children attending a specific school. The concept has been extended to encompass bilingual educators, university researchers, neighbors and community organizations and businesses that are connected to the local school. This cooperation that many different community resources, include professional educators and lay persons, that the best programs for language minority students can be developed.
Biliteracy
This refers to a person’s ability to read and write in two languages. The concept has taken a sociopolitical dimension, especially as reflected in the work of Paulo Freire, who links literacy with issues of social justice and empowerment.
Cultural capital
the accumulation of knowledge, behaviors and skills that one can tap into to demonstrate one’s culture competence, and thus one’s social status standing society.
Diglossia
