List the long bones that have two epiphysis

A

Humerus, radius, femur, Tibia and fibula

20
Q

What makes a bone termed long?

A

It’s structure.
At epiphysis at one end,
a diaphysis
Metaphysis
Compact bone
Medullary cavity

21
Q

Where do the upper limbs and lower limb bud in the embryo

A

Upper limbs - lateral aspect of C5 to T1

Lower limbs- lateral aspect of L2 to S2

22
Q

When do the upper limbs start forming

A

In the 4th week of development

23
Q

When does the lower limb start development

A

5th week of development.

24
Q

The nutrient artery enters the diaphysis to prevent it from interrupting growth in the metaphysis

25
How many bones make up the Tarsus of the left lower limb?

26
Write a short Essay on Traction Epiphysis
It is the part of a bone where tendons or ligaments attach, usually at sites where muscles exert pulling forces. Unlike pressure epiphyses, it does not bear weight and is often irregular or rough in shape rather than smooth. It forms and becomes more prominent over time due to repeated muscle traction, especially during growth. Though it may not be well developed at birth, it gradually ossifies and enlarges with continued muscular activity. An example of a traction epiphysis is the greater trochanter of the femur, where strong thigh muscles attach
27
Write a short essay on the atavistic epiphysis.
It is the part of an independent bone that has been grafted to become a part of another bone e.g the coracoid process — once an independent bone called the coracoid bone but is now fused with the scapula in humans.
28
Write a short essay on Pressure epiphysis.
It is a part of a bone that bears weight or transmit pressure during movement and growth. It is usually smooth for the articulation with another bone unlike that atavistic epiphysis. They are usually involved in joint formation and longitudinal growth of bones. An example is the head of the femur —it fits into the acetabulum of the pelvis forming the hip joint and bearing weight.
