What does the lifestyle medicine approach include?
Feet, Fingers, Forks, Sleep Stress Love (Mnemonic)
Feet: REGULAR physical activity
Fingers: AVOID risky substances (e.g., tobacco, drugs)
Forks: PREDOMINANTLY whole food plant-based diet
Sleep: RESTORATIVE sleep
Stress: MANAGEMENT stress
Love: non-drug modalities to PROMOTE health & PREVENT disease, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connections
Define a whole-food plant-based (WFPB) diet.
A WFPB diet:
1) Consists of mostly foods from plants (e.g. whole grains, vegetables, fruits, beans & legumes)
2) Little or no animal products (e.g., dairy, meat, eggs).
The following are recommended to be referred to the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic:
a. Preconditions such as high normal blood pressure, prediabetes, and borderline lipid profiles.
b. The preconditions, acute lumbar disc disease, and coronary heart disease were cleared by a cardiologist.
c. The preconditions are three weeks post-bariatric surgery and a sedentary lifestyle.
d. The preconditions are poor sleep, stress, being overweight, and client with high blood Hb
