OW- Oily Waste Flashcards

1
Q

What is the purpose of the OW system?

A

Collects and transports liquid waste from equipment and floor drains of the turbine building, the control building, the diesel generator buildings, the fire pump house, and the yard area

Collection point for an oil/water mixture at the oily waste separator, where the oil is manually skimmed and removed for proper disposal

14
Q

What is different about the OW waste drains from the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Cable spreading rooms?

A

They do not flow to the control building sumps

These areas are each drained separately to the ground outside the Control Building

Security screens are provided on the outside outlets of these two drains

16
Q

What drains are received in the North Yard area sump?

A

Demin water storage tank and pumps

Auxiliary boiler and general area

Ground level Turbine building normal AHUs

(176’ turbine building AHUs and roof drains directed normally to circ water)

17
Q

Where do the Yard Area sumps discharge to?

A

Circ Water Canal

18
Q

What is the capacity of the Retention Tanks? Where are they located?

A

505,000 gallons

Plant west of the Unit 3 Spray Pond

19
Q

What is the purpose of the Retention Tanks?

A

Receive effluent from Units 1, 2, and 3 Turbine Building Oil/Water Separators and CWNT Transfer Pumps

20
Q

Who operates the Retention Tanks? What is done prior to sending CWNT contents to the retention tanks?

A

Water Resources

neutralize contents, sample, coordinate with WRF

21
Q

At what level will a sump pump start to pump its associated sump? When would the second pump start? At what level does the first pump secure? Second pump?

A

80% level (high)

90% level (hi-hi)

20% level (lo)

10% level (lo-lo)

22
Q

What is the purpose of the raised floor drain in the MTLO room?

A

to contain, in the case of a MTLO reservoir failure, the oil from the MTLO reservoir

there is also a floor drain valve that’s locked closed

23
Q

What is the purpose of the pressure control valves in the lubrication lines to the OW sump pumps?

A

prevent over pressurization and excessive flow through the Sump Pump bearings

24
Q

What is the purpose of the OW oil water separator?

A

a gravity and coalescing separator system that removes oil from the water it receives

25
Q

What flows does the OW oily water separator receive?

A

turbine building and condenser area sumps

control building sumps

diesel building sumps

26
Q

What prevents solids from getting sucked into the suction of the OW sump pumps?

A

inlet strainer

27
Q

What is the operation of the OW sump pumps in hard start?

A

pump will run level to the LO-LO level and stop

when the LO-LO level clears, the pump will start again

28
Q

Where are the OW sump pumps and Oily water separator sump motor space heaters powered from?

A

NH

O/W separator from a D-panel on an MCC
