Q

What is a tag?

A
  • A tag is a piece of code that is added to website
  • A tag may be a simple 1×1 transparent pixel or image tag loaded onto the web page or it could take the form of JavaScript code that allows for more advanced data collection.
  • It allows data about users to be captured and fires when a specific “event” occurs on the website.
  • After the event, the tag generates a record of that event in the form of a “cookie” that is stored in the user’s desktop for later retrieval

Q

What’s the difference between a tag and a cookie?

A

Tags are not cookies and cookies are not tags. Rather, a tag can be used to set a cookie.

Cookies are text-only strings of code placed on a computer or device for a variety of purposes including remembering a user’s preferences or the contents of their online shopping cart.
