Q

Structure

A
  • Loose iambic pentameter- disrupted or decayed
  • A sonnet - could be respect to Ozymandias or ,as the form is about love, could be another representation of the pharaohs hubris
  • Enjambment and caesuras - apparent lack of control, set against highly structured form of sonnet, reminder of the limits of Ozymandias’s power

‘The hand that mocked them, the heart that fed’

A
  • Introduces the volta
  • Caesura - makes the reader pause to realise how callous and cruel he is
  • ‘Mocked’ - connotations of belittling and ridicule
  • ‘Heart that fed’ - irony, feeding them nothing as he is ‘cold’ hearted
  • Also describing the sculpture, suggests art it more powerful than political power, mocking him as he portrays him as his true self
  • Portrays him as a monster as he’s ‘feeding’ off the vulnerable people
