Complex - Lots of thought or decision making
What is the difference between open and closed skills?
Open - React and adapt to external forces, a changing environment
Closed - Same environment , not affected by external forces
What is the difference between a self and externally paced skill?
Self - controlled by the performer
Externally - affected by external forces
What is the difference between a gross and fine skill?
Gross - involving large muscle groups, powerful movements
Fine - Smaller muscle groups, precise movements

Improving own personal performance
What is an outcome goal?
Performing better than other people. Winning

What is manual guidance?
Physically moved into a position and correct technique
What is mechanical guidance?
Given sporting equipment to aid performer

Manual - Helps teach complex skills
Verbal - elite understand language
Visual - Beginners can copy
Mechanical - Good for beginners, reduces danger
Negative for each type of guidance?
Manual - Performer could rely on it
Visual - Might be difficult to copy
Verbal - Beginners might not understand technical language
Mechanical - Difficult in large groups
What is the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic feedback?
Intrinsic - you know how well you did the technique because of what it felt like
Extrinsic - Someone else tells you or shows you what happened and how to improve
What is the difference between knowledge of results and performance?
Results - outcome , usually extrinsic
Performance - extrin or intrin, using correct technique
What are the four stages of the information processing model?
Input, Decision making, output feedback,
What happens at the input stage?
Receive information from environment through senses. Involves selective attention
What happens at the Decision making stage?
Respond to input. Use short and long term memory
What happens at the Output stage?
Muscles react to the messages , and perform skill
What happens at the feedback stage?
Extrinsic or intrinsic feedback, help you improve skill
