How can you explain the movement of magnets?
With magnetic field lines
What is magnetic flux density?
The number of field lines passing through a particular area
What does the density of field lines show you?
The strength of the magnetic field
What is an induced magnet?
When a conductor that is not a magnet is in a magnetic field and becomes magnetic
How does a conductor become one?
The magnetic regions (domains) in the object line up in a magnetic field
What happens in a hard induced magnet and a soft induced magnet?
Hard - Domains continue to be lined up when you remove the magnetic field
Soft - the domains return to their original direction
Which way does a compass point?
Magnetic North Pole
Why do compasses point magnetic north?
Because the Earth behaves as a massive bar magnet
