P8 Forces In Balance Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is Displacement
Displacement is distance without a change in
direction
Vector
Physical quantities with magnitude (size) AND
direction
Scalar
Physical quantities with magnitude but NO direction
What is distance?
It is a scalar quantity
What is speed?
The rate of change of position of an object in any direction.
What is velocity?
Its a speed in a particlular direction
What can a force cause an object to?
Change its shape
Change its speed
Change its state of rest
Examples of contact forces
Friction, air resistance, stretching
Examples of contact forces
Magnetic force,gravitation force and electrostatic
Examples of contact forces
Magnetic force,gravitation force and electrostatic
What is a force?
A push or pull, that acts on an object due to its interaction with another object. (Measured in neutons) vector quantity.
What is neutons 3rd law?
When 2 objects interact with each other they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
What is friction?
Friction is the force exerted by a surface against object when it moves across it.
What is friction?
Friction is the force exerted by a surface against object when it moves across it.
