What is the definition of Section 1 PACE 1984?
A constable may…
a) search any person or vehicle,
b) search anything in or on a vehicle for stolen or prohibited articles, or
c) detain a person or vehicle for the purposes of the s1 PACE search.

What is Section 17 PACE 1984?
Power of entry for purpose of arrest…
Section 17 provides a wide-ranging power to enter and search premises without a warrant in order to arrest persons or to save life, limb or property.
What are the grounds to enter a premises under Section 17 PACE 1984?
A - Arrest for indictable offences R - Recapture an escapee at large S - Specific offences E - Execute warrant A - Arrest young person in detention R - Recapture pursuing S - Save life/ limb E - Execute commitment warrant
Where can you carry out a Section 17?

What is Section 18 PACE 1984?
Power to enter and search a premises occupied (or controlled) by a suspect after arrest… for an indictable offence.
There must be reasonable grounds for suspecting that there is evidence relating to that offence, or to another connected or similar indictable offence, on the premises prior to entry.
What can you do under Section 18 PACE?
Enter… a premises occupied or controlled by a suspect who’s been arrested for an indictable offence
Search… for any evidence in relation to the relevant offence, or for another connected, or similar indictable offence
Seize… anything found during the course of the search in relation to the offence, or for another connect, or similar indictable offence
What premises may you enter under Section 18 PACE?
Any premises occupied or controlled by the arrested suspect
What approval is needed for a Section 18 entry and search?
Inspectors or above
