pack Flashcards
(16 cards)
What is the function of somatic motor neurons?
Control skeletal muscles
Are somatic motor neurons voluntary or involuntary?
Mostly voluntary
What does the autonomic system control?
Control smooth and cardiac
muscle, glands, lymphoid and adipose tissue.
What is the autonomic nervous system controlled by?
hypothalamus, pons, medulla
Where does the sympathetic nervous system originate from
Thoraco-lumbar regions of the spinal cord
(بيزعل عليه, فيبقولو له تركه)
Where does the parasympathetic nervous system originate from
Cranio-sacral
(you can only buy a crane using a sac of para)
What nerve has 75% of all parasympathetic fibers?
Vagus nerve
What is special about the vagus nerve?
it carries sensory signals from internal organs to brain. It is also the output from brain to organs
What type of neurotransmitter do Sympathetic and parasympathetic preganglionic neurons release? Where do they release them?
acteylcholine on the nicotinic cholinergic receptors (nAChR) on the postganglionic cell
Where and What do Postganglionic parasympathetic neurons release?
Secrete ach on muscarnic cholinergic receptors
Where and What do Postganglionic sympathetic neurons release?
Postganglionic sympathetic: norepinephrine (NE) onto adrenergic receptors on the target cell.
(bc when you are sympathatic, you say no repair for me)
(adrenergic like adernal gland)
What does the edernal medulla do?
Secrete epinephrine into the blood
What branch is the adernal medulla associated with?
sympathetic branch
What is Pheochromocytoma?
Neuroendocrine tumor of the
medulla of the adrenal glands
What does pheochromocytoma do?
Secretes excessive amounts of
epinephrine and norepinephrine
Does pheochoromocytoma occur unilaterlally?
Yes, 80% unilateral
