Q

How were you received?

A

Upon the point of a sharp instrument, piercing my naked left breast,

which was to teach me that, as that instrument is a torture to my flesh,

so may the recollection be to my mind and consciences,

should I ever presume to reveal any of the secrets of Freemasonry unlawfully.

Q

What was then done with you?

A

I was conducted to the center of the Lodge and caused to kneel for the benefit of prayer.

No man should ever enter upon any great or important undertaking without first involving the blessing of God.

Q

What was then done with you?

A

I was reconducted to the senior warden in the west

who taught me to advance by one regular step

with my feet forming a right angle, my body erect, facing the east.

Q

What was then said to you?

A

That before we could proceed with the ceremonies of this degree, it would be necessary for me to take an obligation,

by which I would bind myself to keep inviolate all the mysteries of freemasonry,
appertaining to the degree of Entered apprentice Mason,

and was assured this obligation would not interfere with the duty I owe to God, my country, my neighbor, or myself;

it appertained to freemasonry alone. With this assurance on the part of the master, I was asked if I was willing to proceed?

Q

What is that due form?

A

Kneeling at the altar on my naked left knee,

my right forming the angle of a square,

my body erect within a square,

my left hand supporting,

my right resting upon the Holy BiBle Square and Compass in which due form

I took the solemn obligation of an Entered Apprentice Mason.

Repeat the obligation.

A

“I”, William E. Zelaya Jr., and, of my own free will and accord,

in the presence of God, and this Worshipful Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, erected to Him, and dedicated to the Holy Saints John.

Do hereby and hereon, solemnly and sincerely, promise and swear, that I will always hail, forever conceal, and never reveal,

any of the secret arts, parts or points, of the hidden mysteries of Freemasonry, appertaining to the degree of Entered Apprentice Mason,

to any person under the canopy of heaven, except it be, to a true and lawful Brother of this degree,

or within the body, of a just and legally constituted Lodge, of Entered Apprentice Masons.

And neither unto him nor them, until by strict trial, due examination, or legal information,

I shall have found him or them to be as lawfully entitled to the same, as I am myself.

I furthermore promise and swear, that I will not write, indict, print, cut, carve, hack, hew, etch, letter, or engrave the same,

upon anything moveable, or immovable, whereby or whereon, the least letter, figure or character,

may become legible, or intelligible, to myself or any other person, under the whole canopy of heaven, whereby the secrets of Freemasonry, may become unlawfully communicated.

To all this, I do most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, with a fixed and steady purpose, to perform the same,

without equivocation, mental reservation, or secret evasion, of mind in me whatsoever .

Binding myself under no less a penalty, than that of having my throat cut from ear to ear, my tongue torn out by its roots, and buried in the rough sands of the sea,

a cable’s length from shore, where the tide regularly ebbs and flows. So help me God and keep me steadfast,

in the due observance of this, my solemn obligation, as an Entered Apprentice Mason.
