Q

What were the first objects presented to your view upon being brought from darkness?

A

The three great lights of masonry, the holy Bible, square, and compass.

The holy Bible is given to us as the rule and guide of our faith;

The square to square our actions,

And the compass to circumscribed our desire and keep our passion within due bounds toward all mankind.

This I was enabled to observe by aid of the three lesser lights, representing the sun, moon, and master of the lodge, and were thus explained.

As the sun rules the day, and the moon governs the night,

So should the worshipful master endeavor with equal regularity to rule and govern the lodge over which he is called to preside.

Q

What did you next observe?

A

The worshipful master approaching me from the east, under the due guard and sign of an entered apprentice Mason.

He presented to me his right hand, in token of friendship and brotherly love, invested me with the grip and word of this degree.

Bade me arise, go and salute the senior and junior warden as an entered apprentice Mason

Q

What was then presented to you?

A

Lamb skin apron. It is an emblem of innocence, and the badge of a Mason.

More ancient than the golden fleece or the Roman eagle; more honorable than the star or garter,

or any distinction that can be conferred upon you at this or any future period, by king, prince, potentate, or any other person,

and which it is hoped that you will wear with pleasure to yourself and honor to the fraternity.
