What type of pain is transmitted by c fibres? And alpha-delta fibres?
c fibres = slow, dull, diffuse pain
alpha delta fibres = sharp, fast, localised pain
Describe the analgesia ladder.
non-opioid medication -> paracetamol + NSAIDs
weak opioids -> codeine + tramadol
strong opioids -> morphine + fentanyl + oxycodone + buprenorphine
What medications can be prescribed off licence for pain?
antidepressants such as amitriptyline + anticonvulsants such as gabapentin
What is the name of the medication used to reverse the effects of opioids in life threatening over doses?
naloxone
