How to distinguish between SS and NMS?
A
SS is like DELIRIUM (from serotonergic agents)
- Develops QUICKLY (24 hours)
- Tremor, hyper-reflexia, myoclonus
- Resolves within 24H
NMS is like DEMENTIA (from dopa agents)
- Develops slowly (Days to Weeks)
- Neuromuscular slowing (rigidity, bradyreflexia)
- Resolves on average around 9 days
Hyperthermia, AMS, muscle rigidity, elevated CPK, metabolic acidosis, elevated LFTs common in BOTH
