Pancreas, Liver,and Gallbladder P2 Flashcards

1
Q

Pancreatic acini

A

99% of pancreatic tissue, comprising the exocrine portion of the gland, and producing the fluid and digestive enzymes that make up pancreatic juice

Q

hepatocyte

A

The functional cells of the liver make up 80% of the volume of the liver. They perform a huge range of metabolic, secretory & endocrine functions

Q

Sinusoidal capillary

A

The most porous capillaries running through the hepatic lobules. They allow most of the contents of the blood to move into the hepatic interstitial fluid

Q

Hepatic laminae

A

Rows of hepatocytes within a hepatic lobule. They run alongside hepatic sinusoids and bile canaliculi

Q

Bile canaliculi

A

Small bile ducts running among the hepatocytes that collect produced bile and convey it to bile ductules, and eventually to bile ducts

A

The primary vein of a hepatic lobule, collecting blood from sinusoid capillaries and moving it to the hepatic vein

Q

Hepatic vein

A

Collects venous blood from the central veins of the liver and conducts it to the inferior vena cava

Q

Hepatic artery

A

Primary arterial branch serving the liver. It’s one of the 3 branches of the celiac trunk

Q

Hepatic portal vein

A

The “other “ source of afferent blood to the liver!! It brings blood from the capillary beds of the intestine to the liver

Q

Bile duct

A

Collects bile from the bile canaliculi (via bile ductules). Eventually, they flow into the left and right hepatic ducts and into the common hepatic duct

Q

Portal triad

A

The combination of one bile duct, one hepatic artery, and one hepatic portal vein. It’s the central structure of a hepatic acinus

A

Fixed phagocytes sitting within sinusoid capillaries of the liver, breaking down pathogens and worn-out blood cells

Q

Hepatic acinus

A

Currently accepted functional unit of the liver. Bordered by two central veins laterally, with a portal triad running through the center. Zone 1 is hepatocytes, hepatic laminae, bile canaliculi, and sinusoids closest to the center portal triad. Zone 3 is the same structure furthest from the portal triad - closet to the central veins. Zone 2 structures are between Zone 1 and Zone 3 in location and function.
