Agility
To move and change direction quickly whilst maintaining control.
Rugby player- need high levels of agility so they are able to change direction quickly to miss a tackle
Balance
The maintenance of the centre of mass over the base of support.
A gymnast will need to be balanced when performing on the balance beam. Need to be able to provide complex moves such as somersaults without falling.
Cardiovascular endurance
The ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to the working muscles.
Marathon runner- need to have high levels of cardiovascular endurance to ensure their working muscles are supplied with oxygen, over long period of time
Co-ordination
The ability to use different parts of the body together, smoothly and effectively
Tennis player- will need to use hand and eye co-ordination when serving.
Flexibility
The range of movement possible to a joint
Gymnastics-need levels of flexibility so they can perform difficult moves such as the splits
Muscular endurance
Ability of a muscle or muscle groups to undergo repeated contractions avoiding fatigue
Kayaking- is needed so that the performer is able to continually pull the kayak though the water when paddling
Power
The product of strength and speed is strength X speed
Long jump- need high levels of power so they can push off from the ground with maximum strength and cover large distance.
Reaction time
Time taken to intake a response to a stimulus
100m sprint- is pups need quick reaction at the start of a race. If they react quickly to a gun this will give them advantage and will allow they to get ahead of their opponent.
Speed
The maximum rate at which an individual is able to perform a movement or cover a distance in a period of time putting the body parts into action as quickly as possible.
Boxing- a boxer need to be able to move their body quickly. This can help them avoid being hit as they dodge or move away from a punch
Strength
The ability to over come a resistance
Static strength
To hold a body part in a static position. Muscle length stays the same/maximum force that can be applied into an immovable object
Gymnastics- need to be able to performa handstand when performing. Having good static strength means they are able to hold a position without falling
