Q

Describe the nitrogen cycle

A
  1. Nitrogen in the air is absorbed by nitrogen fixing bacteria
  2. This is turned into nitrate and amino acids are released into the plants which is then eaten by the animals
  3. When these organisms die the DECOMPOSING BACTERIA break them down into ammonia and the NITRIFYING BACTERIA break it down back into nitrates and the cycle repeats again

Q

Why can crop rotation increase crop yield? ( explain )

A

Farmers firstly grow crops in their fields that contain NITROGEN FIXING BACTERIA in their roots so the plants can absorb the nitrates and increase the concentration
The following year the farmer grows their normal crop and they absorb the nitrogen from the NITROGEN FIXING PLANTS increasing crop yield
