What is a closed skill?
A skill performed in a predictable environment.
What is an open skill?
A skill performed in an unpredictable environment, where the performer must adjust and react to the nature of the situation.
What is a basic skill?
A simple skill requiring little concentration to execute.
What is a complex skill?
A skill requiring a lot of attention and concentration.
What is a low organisation skill?
A basic skill that can be broken down into different phases so each part can be practiced separately.
What is a high organisation skill?
A skill that cannot be broken down easily and practiced separately because the phases of the skill are closely linked.
What is goal setting?
The process of setting down targets that a performer will aim to accomplish.
What are some benefits of goal setting?

- Allows analysis of strengths and weaknesses
What does the SMART acronym stand for?

What is Fixed practice?
Repeatedly practicing a whole skill within a training session
What is Variabled Practice?
A training session that includes frequent changes of task so that the skill can be repeated in different situation.
What is massed practice?
Practice that occurs without breaks between trials.
What is distributed practice?
Intervals between a skill practice in a training session for rest or mental rehearsals.
What are the four main types of guidance?

What is mechanical guidance?
When equipment is used in the coaching process of a skill.
What is manual guidance?
When a coach physically moves a performer into the correct position or supports them as the do the skill.
What is concurrent feedback?
Information a performer receives about their performance during the activity.
What is Terminal Feedback?
Information a performer receives about their performance after the activity has been completed.
What is Intrinsic Feedback?
Information a performer receives about their performance that comes from within the performers thoughts.
What is Extrinsic Feedback?
Information a performer receives about their performance from a coach or external party.
Why is the use of a line graph helpful?
It helps to visualize progression and identify trends.
Why is a bar graph helpful?
Makes it easier to see which groups or variables have higher or lower performance levels.
Why is a scatter graph helpful?
Reveals connections between different factors affecting performance.
What is Normative Data?
Data collected from a large group of people to establish averages or standards for comparison.
