Paper 3 review Flashcards

Q

Objective

A
  • The questions/objective of this research paper are which genes are expressed during the formation of antheridia and archegonia in Physocomitrium patens, characterizing the function of PpLAS genes during development, which produces the inner and outer cell layers, if they interact with GRAS transcription factor genes, and how PpLAS functions as a role of the evolutionary development from aquatic environments to terrestrial.

Q

Conclusions

A
  • With proper spatiotemporal regulation, PpLAS1 and PpLAS2 expressed in apical stem and daughter cells assist in regulating cell division of the different cell layers in both male and female gametangia, and without them, there is no differentiation between sperm and egg. This differentiation of cell divisions helps us understand the evolutionary changes of gametangia adapting form aquatic to terrestrial environments. PpLAS genes don’t interact with PpSHR genes that distinguish leaf patterning.
