In the beginning of the story, the narrator is shown to be an innocent character through her childlike interest and imagination
Plath demonstrates the narrator innocence through her fascination with flight
“The airport was my mecca,my jerusalem”

•Just as mecca and jerusalem are holy places of worship,so too is the airport somewhere the narrator adires,found sacred
•This highlights how captivated the narrator felt,emphasising her fascination with the concept of flight
The narrator’s description of her vivid dreams again shows her as an innocent character
“Those were the days of my technicolour dreams”
•colour symbolises her imagination
•her dreams were bright and vivid,full of possibility
•dull,darkness invades her dreams
This is why we later feel (question) as she is exposed to the harsh realities of the world
