Parallel And Transversal Flashcards
(10 cards)
Q: What are parallel lines?
A: Lines in the same plane that do not intersect.
Q: What is a transversal?
A: A line that intersects two or more lines at distinct points.
Q: How many angles are formed when a transversal intersects two lines?
A: 8 angles
Q: What are corresponding angles?
A: Angles on the same side of the transversal, one interior and one exterior, and in matching corners.
Q: State the property of corresponding angles when lines are parallel.
A: They are equal (congruent)
Q: What are alternate interior angles?
A: Interior angles on opposite sides of the transversal.
Q: What are interior angles on the same side of the transversal?
A: A pair of interior angles on the same side of the transversal.
Q: What is true about alternate interior angles when lines are parallel?
A: They are equal (congruent)
Q: What is true about interior angles on the same side of a transversal when lines are parallel?
A: They are supplementary (add up to 180°).
Q: How can you prove two lines are parallel using angle properties?
A: If corresponding angles are equal, or alternate interior angles are equal, or interior angles on the same side are supplementary.
