How does Levodopa work?

A

Crosses the blood-brain-barrier and after entering the central nervous system, it is converted into dopamine by the enzyme aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase, also known as DOPA decarboxylase.

How does Carbidopa work?

A

Inhibits the decarboxylation of levodopa to dopamine in the systemic circulation, allowing for greater levodopa distribution into the central nervous system.
