Pilot School Certificate Duration
- Expires 24 calendar months AFTER the month of issuance, may renew within 30 days before the expiring month.
- Expires on the date of any change in the facilities upon which the school’s certificate is based occurs.
- Expires when the school has failed for more than 60 days to maintain the facilities, aircraft, or personnel required for any one of the school’s approved training courses.
Does a change in the ownership of a pilot school or provisional pilot school terminate that school’s certificate?
No, if within 30 days after the date of change that,
- Application to FSDO is made for an appropriate amendment to the certificate.
- No change in the facilities, personnel, or approved training courses is involved.
Part 141.19
Display of Certificate
Each holder of a pilot school certificate or a provisional pilot school certificate must display that certificate in a place in the school that is normally accessible to the public and is not obscured.

Renewal of Certificate and Ratings
- A pilot school may apply for renewal of its school certificate and ratings within 30 days preceding the month the pilot school’s certificate expires, provided the school meets the requirements.
- A pilot school that does not meet the renewal requirements (80% Pass Rate etc.) may apply for a provisional pilot school certificate.
If failure to be approved for a Pilot School Certificate, a former Provisional Pilot School may not apply for another provisional certificate within ____ days?

- 1.5 yr instruction + 500 dual;
OR 750 dual.

Check Instructor Qualification
- Commercial or ATP and current CFI
- Pass knowledge and flight test by the chief instructor.
- Be designated, in writing, by the chief instructor and be approved by FSDO.

- One runway allowing takeoff and landing under max gross weight.
- Wind direction indicator visible from end of runway at ground level.
- Traffic direction indicator if no tower and UNICOM unavailable.

Examining Authority Qualification
- Complete application.
- Must hold Pilot School Cert. and the course ratings for at least 24 calendar months.
- Course may not have reduced minimums.
- Within the 24 calendar months have trained at least 10 students in the specific course with 9 passed on the first attempt.
- Renewal requires every 24 calendar months once approved.
Transfer credit for student from another Part 141 approved course may not exceed ____ of the training requirement; Part 61 may not exceed ____ of the training requirement.

[141.79 Flight Training]
Each flight instructor must complete to following tasks which must be administered by the Chief Instructor, Assist. Chief or Check Instructor. (3)
- Review of and receive a briefing on the objectives and standards of that training course.
- Initial proficiency check in each make and model of aircraft used in that training course in which that person provides training.
- Every 12 calendar months a recurrent proficiency check in one of the aircraft in which the person trains students.

Chief Instructor Responsibilities
- Certifying each student’s training record, graduation certificate, stage check and end-of-course test reports, and recommendation for course completion
- Conduct CFI’s initial and annual proficiency check.
- Ensuring that each student accomplishes the required stage checks and end-of-course tests in accordance with the school’s approved training course.
- The chief instructor or an assistant chief instructor must be available at the pilot school or, if away from the pilot school, be available by telephone, radio, or other electronic means during the time that training is given for an approved training course.
Process of Changing Chief Instructor (4)

- Immediately provide written notification to FSDO.
- May conduct training without a chief instructor for that training course for a period not to exceed 60 days while awaiting the designation and approval of another chief instructor.
- Stage Checks/EOC could be conducted by Assist. Chief, Check Instructor, FAA Inspector or DPE.
- Must, after 60 days without a chief instructor, cease operations and surrender its certificate to the Administrator.

- The holder of a pilot school certificate or provisional pilot school certificate must maintain a monthly listing of persons enrolled in each training course offered by the school.
Part 141.101 (4)
Training Records.
- Enrollment date, chronological log of the student’s attendance and training, and the date of graduation, transfer or termination.
- If just the student logbook, it will not be suffice for this requirement.
- Whenever a student graduates, terminates training, or transfers to another school, the student’s record must be certified to that effect by the chief instructor.
- Student record must be maintained for at least 1 year.

Private Pilot Certification
- 35 hours of aeronautical knowledge training.
- 35 hours of flight training.
- 20 hours of flight training from CFI.
- 3 hrs of night flight with a 100nm XC and 10 fullstops at an airport. - 3 hrs solely by reference to instruments.
- 3hrs checkride prep within 60 days of exam.
- Use of FTD may credit up to 15% of total training hour requirement.
- 5 hours of solo time.
- 3 fullstops at a towered airport and 100nm XC with landings at 3 points. - Each student enrolled in a private pilot course must satisfactorily accomplish the stage checks and end-of-course tests.

Commercial Pilot Course
- At least Private
- Instrument Rating before the flight portion.
- 35 hours knowledge.
- 120 hours of flight training.
- 55 hours flight training from CFI.
- 10 hrs instrument training
- 10 hrs complex or TAA.
- 2 hrs XC day VFR 100nm training.
- 2 hrs XC night VFR 100nm training.
- 3 hours checkride prep within 60 days of exam. - Use of FTD credit no more than 20% of total flight hour requirement.
- 10 hours of supervised PIC time.
- One XC landing at 3 points with one segment more than 250nm.
- 5 hours night VFR with 10 takeoffs and landings at towered airport. - Each student enrolled in a commercial pilot course must satisfactorily accomplish the stage checks and end-of-course tests
