Part Two- Muscle Tissue Flashcards
(5 cards)
What are fasicles?
Bundles of small fibers that make up a muscle
Muscle tissue
1) voluntary ( skeletal muscles)
Under conscious control/ fast moving/ red fibers/ straided muscle fibers
2) involuntary ( smooth)
Not under conscious control/ slow moving/ white fibers/ smooth muscle fibers ( stomach, intestine and bladder)
3) cardiac
Not under conscious control, fast moving, red fibers, straided muscle fibers, rhythmic pace and regular strength.
Straided muscle fibers?
Within the fasicle are thinner fibers called myofibrils
Myofibril is made of thick and thin contractil filaments
Main component in thick myofilament is protein myosin
Thin myofilaments= proteins actin and tropomyosin
Alteration of think and thin myofilaments gives skeletal muscle fibers striped appearance
What is tropomyosin ?
Thin myofilament protein
Has the ability to inhibit contractions
Contraction
Relaxed muscle- think and thin myofilaments are lengthened and overlap
During contraction- thick myofilaments slide farther in between the thin myofilaments and draw closer together. The action shortens both the myofibrils and the whole muscle fiber.
More shortened- bigger the contraction
