Reason of Fine: Disapproval of villagers for 10 year agreement with the irrigation department. Amount of Fine: 4050 Rs. Cause of Movement: Tax imposed on the use of canal water. Conclusion: A British officer reduced the fine to 1/4, but villagers refused to pay, leading to the revocation of the fine. Related to: Kandel Canal Satyagraha was linked to the Non-Cooperation Movement. NOTE- Kandel Canal constructed by British Officer Mr. Harriet Pt. Sundarlal Sharma invited Mahatma Gandhi to Chhattisgarh credit for bringing Gandhi to Chhattisgarh for the first time to Pt. Sundar Lal Sharma.
