What does a noun do?
A noun identifies a person, place or thing.
State some other things nouns can be?
Nouns can also be subjects, objects, adjectives or adverbs.

What does a pronoun do?
A pronoun replaces a noun; a pronoun refer to the subject of the sentence.
What are some examples of pronouns?
he, she they, we.
Use some pronouns in a sentence.
Yesterday, Alicia could have gone to the movies, but SHE came to late to watch IT.
What does a verb do?
A verb is used to communicate an action, event or state of being.
Give some examples of verbs.
Run, sit, walk, watch.
Use some verbs in a sentence.
These days, I always WAKE up so late, that I have to RUN to catch the bus.
What are verb tenses?
Verb tenses express a time frame.
Give some examples of verb tenses.
Ride, rode, will ride, walked, walk, will walk, walking.
What is an adverb?
An adverb is something used to provide more information about a verb, an adjective, or another, adverb within a sentence.
What questions to adverbs answer?
Adverbs answer questions about, how, when, where or how much.
Use some adverbs in a sentence.
The seamstress QUICKLY repaired the ripped pants | The doctor spoke OPTIMISTICALLY about the outcome of the surgery.
What do adverbs often end in?
Adverbs often end in “ly” ( Slowly, quickly)
What is an adjective?
An adjective is a word used to modify a noun, and they almost always come before the noun in a sentence.
Use some adjectives in a sentence.
The EERIE creature, Scarbo, jumped and leaped about in the SHINING and GLIMMERING night sky.
What does a preposition do?
A preposition is linking word, that links nouns and pronouns with other parts of a sentence.
Use some prepositions in a sentence.
The book is ON the table | She held the book OVER | The book is leaning AGAINST the table.
Give some examples of prepositions.
Near, next, against, on, of, at.
What is a conjunction?
A conjunction is another kind of linking word that links words or phrases.
What are some examples of conjunctions?
But, and, or, so, therefore, because.
