A

Common nouns are for ordinary common things that are around us (e.g person, car, desk)

Define- adjective

A

Adjectives tell us more about the noun and they usually go in front of the noun (e.g the SOLID table)

Define- verb

A

A verb is an action or a doing word. It tells us what the noun is doing (e.g Mary waves- Mary is the noun and waves is the verb).

Define- auxiliary verb

A

An auxiliary verb helps the main verb. With auxiliary verbs, you can write sentences in different tenses. The main examples of an auxiliary verb is am, are, have, had, could etc.

Define- definite article

A

‘The’ is the only definite article- e.g I sat at THE table. It is used because it is being very definite about which table you’re talking about.

A

There are two indefinite articles: ‘a’ and ‘an’- e.g I at AN apple. It is an indefinite article because it could be any apple.

Define- conjunction

A

Conjunctions are joining words. Common conjunctions are: and, although, because, but.

A

Plural nouns are used when there’s more than one of an object. Plural just means more than one (e.g shoes, hills, seasons).

A

Proper nouns are for titles, names, people, places, days, months etc. They always have a capital letter (e.g Dr Collins, January).

A

Abstract nouns are things like qualities, ideas and emotions that cannot be noticed through the senses (e.g happiness, fear, love).

A

Infinitive refers to a basic verb form that often acts as a noun and is often preceded by the word “to.” An example is ‘to sing’.
