Noun
Is the name of person, place or thing
E.g. Boy, School, Dog
Adjective
An adjective describes a noun or a pronoun. An adjective tells what kind, how many or which one
E.g. Fast, two, this
Verb
A verb can tell which action someone or something is doing. A verb can also express a state of being.
E.g. Run, jump
Pronoun
A pronoun is used in place of a noun in a sentence. A pronoun may take the place of the name of a person, place or thing
E.g. I, She, It
Article
The words a, an, and the belong to a special group of adjectives called articles . An article can be used before a noun in a sentence
E.g. A rabbit, An ant
Adverb
A word that describes a verb. Tends to use the suffix ‘ly’.
E.g. Quickly, Badly, Well
Preposition
A preposition combines with a noun or pronoun to form a phrase that tells something about another word in a sentence
E.g. From, To, Until, Over
Conjunctions
Conjunctions are joining words to link together phrases or sentences.
E.g. And, Because, Or, Yet
Interjection
An interjection expresses strong feeling or emotion. An interjection can be a single word or a phrase./
E.g. Help, Ouch, Look out
Common Noun
Used to name a person, animal, place, thing
E.g. Cat, Table, Scissors
Proper noun
Name specific people, place or things.
Brodie, Paris, Telstra
Collective Noun
Name a group or collection of things.
E.g. Flock of sheep, Cows
Abstract Nouns
Names or feelings/emotions or ideas.
E.g. Happiness, Sadness
Comparative adjective
Compares two things. Generally uses the suffix ‘er’
E.g. Faster, slower
Past Tense
An action that has occurred in the past. Tends to use the suffix ‘ed’
E.g. Crawled
Present Tense
An action that is currently occurring in the present. Tends to use the suffix ‘ing’
E.g. Crawling
Future Tense
An action that is yet to occur. It will happen in the future.
