why is party organisation weak in the US?
-due to system of federal government
-due to the US’ size and diversity, parties have to meet the needs of each state
what is the central organisation of the two main parties and what do they do?
-republican/democrat national committee
-they raise money, hire staff, and coordinate an election strategy
-both have a chair elected by members of the committee
-seen as no more of a coming together of the state parties
what are hill committees?
-political party committees that work to elect members of their own party to congress
-national republican/democrat congressional committtee raise funds for house of representative elections
-national republican/democrat senatorial committee raise funds for senate elections
-have no direct role in choosing candidates
