Abortion
Termination of pregnancy before 20 weeks
Complete Abortion
All products of conception are expelled
Incomplete Abortion
Part of products of conception expelled with portion remaining in uterus
Missed Abortion
Presence of an embryo without cardiac activity
Inevitable Abortion
Imminent and cannot be halted when any two or more of the following are present:
- dilated cervix (> 3 cm)
- rupture of membranes
- bleeding >7 days
- persistent cramping
Anembryonic pregnancy
No embryo in gestational sac 25 mm or larger
Ectopic pregnancy
Implantation of fertilized ovum at any site except endometrium
Heterotopic pregnancy
Coexisting intrauterine and extrauterine pregnancies
Persistent Trophoblastic Neoplasia/Disease (PTN/PTD)
Abnormal tissue continues to grow after a pregnancy has ended, most commonly after GTD
Invasive mole
Malignant, non-metastatic gestational trophoblastic disease that penetrates the myometrium
Choriocarcinoma
Rare, malignant, metastatic gestational trophoblastic disease that can metastasize to lung, liver, brain, bone, GI tract, and skin
Gastroschisis
Abdominal wall defect where the bowel herniates to the right of the umbilical cord and is not covered by a membrane
Omphalocele
Abdominal wall defect where bowel, liver, or both herniate through the midline abdomen into the base of the umbilical cord and is covered by a membrane
Bladder Exstrophy
Exposure and protrusion of the bladder through the lower abdominal wall
Persistent Right Umbilical Vein
The umbilical vein courses toward the left side of the fetal abdomen
Hypotelorism
Decreased distance between orbits
Hypertelorism
Increased distance between orbits
Microphthalmia
Small eye within a small orbit
Micrognathia
Abnormally small jaw
Frontal Bossing
Prominent forehead due to absent nasal bridge
Goiter
Enlargement of fetal thyroid gland
Cystic Hygroma
Benign, posterior neck mass
Anophthalmia
Absence of the eye(s)
Microtia
Small ears
