Drooping of the upper eyelid that is usually due to muscle weakness or paralysis
Ptosis
*also known as a stye
* pus-filled and painful lesion on the eyelid resulting from an acute infection
Hordeolum
*also known as pink eye
* inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by a viral infection, allergy or irritants
Conjunctivitis
*inflammation of the sclera (white of the eye)
* usually associated with infections or chemical injuries
Scleritis
*loss of transparency of the lens that causes progressive loss of visual clarity
* most are associated with aging
Cataract
*contraction of the pupil, normally in response to exposure to light
* may be due to use of prescription or illegal drugs
Miosis
Group of diseases characterized by the increased intraocular pressure that causes damage to the retinal nerve fibers and optic nerve
Glaucoma
Condition in which the eye does not focus properly because of uneven curvatures of the cornea
Astigmatism
*also known as nearsightedness
* a defect in which light rays focus in front of the retina
Myopia
