1
Q

Colossians 3:12 teaches us to clothe ourselves with patience. How?

A

Just as clothing is visible, our patience should be as visible to others as our clothing.

Q

What does the original Greek for “patience” emphasize?

A

“Number one, a sense of urgency. And number two, a sense of permanence.” [Source: Chairman’s Address 2023 Regional]

w91 10/15 p. 15 pars. 1-2 Be Clothed With Mildness!

JEHOVAH gives his people the very best figurative clothing. In fact, all who desire his favor must be clothed in a garment having strong strands of mildness. This quality is comforting because it minimizes tension in stressful situations. It is protective too, for it wards off strife.

The apostle Paul urged fellow anointed Christians: “As God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, lowliness of mind, mildness, and long-suffering.” (Colossians 3:12) The tense of the Greek word rendered “clothe yourselves” denotes action to be taken with a sense of urgency. Anointed ones, who were chosen, holy, and loved by God, were not to delay in clothing themselves with such qualities as mildness…

Q

Can you define “patience”?

“The capacity to accept or tolerate trouble or suffering without getting upset. It keeps us from becoming provoked, no matter what may be happening around us, this virtue should be a permanent aspect of our personality.” [Source: Chairman’s Address 2023 Regional]

Q

Why should we remember the patience of the farmer?

A

The farmer’s patience is rewarded.

Be patient then, brothers, until the presence of the Lord. Look! The farmer keeps waiting for the precious fruit of the earth, exercising patience over it until the early rain and the late rain arrive. You too exercise patience; make your hearts firm, because the presence of the Lord has drawn close - James 5:7, 8

Hebrews 13:22

Urgent: Listen Patiently (“Now I urge you brothers…”)

A

Now I urge you, brothers, to listen patiently to this word of encouragement, for I have written you a short letter - Hebrews 13:22

In the 15th century, Blaise Pascal said: “I have made this letter longer than usual because I did not have time to make it short.”

Why does a farmer need different times to plant and to uproot?

A

Each crop is different.

To get the best results we must work in harmony with Jehovah’s seasons (said the speaker)

Q

Friends on social media are like plastic trees. How?

A

They don’t take time to develop or to grow. They don’t provide the protection, support and love that we need, and are not the true friends of Proverbs 17:17 (audio).

Q

Doing nothing…

Waiting does not mean…

“or taking shortcuts”

A

Doing Nothing. “…showing patience means doing everything we can to support Jehovah’s sovereignty while waiting on Jehovah’s time. But this raises the question, Why was Jesus patient? What gave him the strength to wait? The answer would become clear when Jesus came to the earth. Now, you might recall shortly after Jesus baptism, he was led into the wilderness where he was tempted three times by the devil. Now we’re familiar with those temptations. But what’s fascinating is that Jesus’ response to each of those three temptations has a connection with his patience. How so? Well, each time the devil tempted Jesus, Satan was essentially putting before Jesus, a shortcut.” [Jesus loved and trusted his Father Jehovah; so patiently waited on him.]

Q

Ps.105:19 Until his word proved true, the saying of Jehovah refined him.

Based on Ps. 105-17-19, name three ways Jehovah blessed Joseph.

Ps.105:17- He sent ahead of them a man who was sold as a slave, Joseph.

A
  1. The difficult tests refined Joseph (19b)
  2. As Joseph was patient, God’s promise came true for him (19a)
  3. Joseph being sold into slavery was part of God’s purpose (17)
18
Q

There is an African saying: “A patient man will eat…

A

Ripe Fruit

19
Q

When we expect life to be hard, it becomes easier to bear up.

“We must enter into the Kingdom of God through…”

trials

A

…many tribulations” - Acts 14:22b

20
Q

“Go on walking in wisdom
toward those on the outside…

A

…making the best use of your time. Let your words always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should answer each person” - Colossians 4:5,6

21
Q

While we are waiting, what should we do?

A

“And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come” - Matt. 24:14

22
Q

Why should we not always press for correct answers?

A

Or we could consider applying Jesus example, why not simply say we can skip this and deal with it later, as we learned in John 16, verse 12 [speaker]

(John 16:12) 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.

23
Q

Be patient toward all.

1 Thessalonians 5:14

A

“…speak consolingly to those who are depressed, support the weak, be patient toward all…”

24
Q

With **all **patience…

2 Timothy 4:2

Context suggests this applies to those teaching in the congregation.

A

“Preach the word; be at it urgently in favorable times and difficult times; reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all patience and art of teaching.”

25
Q

While patience preserves…

A

Pride perishes.

26
Q

Psalm 37:5, 6 and Trust Based Humility (TBH)

Why should we commit our way to Jehovah?

A

Commit your way to Jehovah; Rely on him, and** he **will act in your behalf. He will make your righteousness shine like daybreak, And your justice like the midday sun.
